Spiritual Warfare- My thoughts or the devils?
There are a lot of scriptures related to spiritual warfare which instruct us on the battlefield of the mind combating the doctrines of devils in our own hearts and against those of others (2 Cor.10:3-5). But there is an aspect to combating devils where it is not related to their devices of corrupting your actions through their philosophies but where they try to interject thoughts directly into your heart and mind to compel you to act or react (Jn.13:2, Mt.16:22-3, 1 Chr.21:1). This introduces another dynamic into your spiritual combat where you are not sure if all of the thoughts in your own heart have actually originated with you or from outside of you.

Where our shield of faith comes in is that we recognize the bible teaching that the thoughts of our heart are not easily discernible by us and that we must trust God to divide them:

Heb.4:12-13 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

Psa.139:1-3 O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.  Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.

This insight is reflected in Jer. 10:23 O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. And it prompts the prayer of David in v23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

Even our prayers are in need of help by the presence of the Spirit of God and communion of the Holy Ghost (2 Cor.13:14):

Rom.8:26-7 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Only God knows the hearts of men (2 Chr.6:30, 1 Ki.8:39, Jer.17:9-10, 1 Sam.16:7, Rev.2:23). We must trust God to reveal the thoughts of our heart by his word and circumstances and through prayer. We are not trusting our ability to know ourselves but God's ability to reveal our hearts (1 Cor.4:3-5). If the Lord reveals a snare or device of the wicked one lodged in our heart we resist it stedfast in the faith (1 Pt.5:9). But faith in his resurrection power (Eph.6:10, 1:19-20, Col.2:15) and springing from a bible truth, as Christ showed us in the wilderness when tempted of the devil (Mt.4). Likewise must pride be put away for this will give place to the devil and render us powerless against him (Jam.4:6-10). But again we must trust God to expose and reveal the thoughts and intentions moving us- it is not something that we can figure out through our own introspection. Even if we exercise ourselves to have a conscience (see under section on spirit) void of offense (Act.24:16, Rom.2:15) the accuser can still condemn us (Rev.12:10, 1 Jn.3:20), His Spirit must quicken our conscience (Rom.9:1, Heb.10:2). We must depend upon “the eyes of him with whom we have to do”. We trust God to show us the nature and origin of our thoughts and not our ability to know ourselves.
