All That We Are
All that we are and all that we choose is not a pure product
of us or result of our ruse.
Life from within is not from our will nor storms from
without a thing that we still.
We are forced into motion steered by the wind whirling
about without pause or rescind.
Life passes before us as currents in the sea; if we find
not our compass where will we be?
Ineffable beauty was before there were eyes; the strings
of our heart give symphonic rise.
Yet rise from a well of that we did not create, and drawn
out with words that we couldn’t state.
Thus was the eye formed and was the ear planted, a heart
was conceived and consciousness granted;
And granted indeed by the Creator sublime, upholding
existence and existing without time.
Beautiful moonlight flooding through her clear skies falling
upon waters then filling our eyes.
Eyes that see wonders worth more than the world’s gold
one day they will this Creator behold.
And every moment of every day no single event moves apart
from his say.
From the smallest of elements to the grandest of scale
his invisible glory in every detail.
His wisdom in the mundane is wildly displayed, his
beautiful artistry vastly arrayed.
Arrayed everyday from the sun’s rise to its setting, or
in the new life of children’s begetting.
Torrents of emotion flooding the heart at the soul’s
first love or by deathly depart,
Teach us the power of his love unrestrained, a deepness
that no single heart can contain.
No language of words, no deepness of thought can express
the glory of the things he hath wrought.
For all strength will fail and all voices fade to give
praise that is worthy just in what he hath made.
But of who he is eternity is waiting to grant us the
privilege to ever be stating.
From the moment he spoke and all things began, creation
beheld the eternal I AM.
