What's Going on In Bill Johnson's Church?

There are numerous videos available to see the heretical teachings and practices going on under Bill Johnson's guidance- just check out any cursory (Jer.2:34) video search (also Andrew Strom's documentaries.)

So apparently the kid’s pastor out in Bethel Church has never read Dave Hunt’s Seduction of Christianity series. He is teaching children to visualize Jesus in their imagination by closing their eyes and ‘soaking’ in God’s presence and this is apparently some form of prayer/communication. Of course this is taught NO WHERE in scripture- which is never a deterrent for these lovers of themselves.

He proceeds to make this sort of ‘argument’ to support this practice- ‘the word for imagination in the Greek language is also translated heart’. He thinks this is proof for visualizing images of Jesus. Maybe there are a few links missing here in this argument but this is by no means rational or scriptural evidence for such a practice.

Jer.13:10 This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them…

A short bible study reveals that imagination is a function of the heart:

Gen 8:21 “…for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth…” Gen.6:5 “…every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” Dt.29:19 “…he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the imagination of mine heart…” Jer.7:24 “But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.” Lk. 1:51 “…he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.”

But Paul exhorts us in spiritual warfare “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” (2 Cor.10:5) So I think we should do that here.

“Then said he unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen what the ancients of the house of Israel do in the dark, every man in the chambers of his imagery? “ (Ezek. 8:12) The sins of idolatry saturated Israel in Ezekiel’s day so much that idols filled their hearts as they sought a word of the Lord from the prophet:

“Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;” 14:3-4

God declared that he would bring delusion (v8-9) upon these wicked men for presumptuously he “separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me”.(v7) They turn away their ears from the truth and are turned unto fables.

We have addressed this idolatry of the heart here (half the way down) and here.

And there is this jewel of exposition on the Trinity by one of the worship leaders (Bill's daughter in law- he smiles as he looks on admiringly). Apparently the words that the Holy Ghost gave us to describe himself (1 Cor.2:13, 2 Tim.3:16) aren't as vivid as Robin Williams and Disney:

She cannot distinguish the anointing of the Spirit from her own emotional instability. (Whose God is their belly- Phil.3:19) There is a lot more delusion intoxicating these worshippers of emotion- but you should be aware of the things manifesting in churches that are not operations of the Spirit.
